Issues of Concern to the WCTU of Maryland

We urge all members to adopt the Golden Rule as their personal standard of living and to encourage everyone else to do the same.

Sanctity of Human Life:

WCTU believes that all persons born and unborn are created in the image of God, therefore, we believe in the value and protection of innocent human life from conception until natural death. The WCTU opposes induced abortion for personal convenience, population control or medical research. WCTU also opposes physician-assisted suicide.

Freedom of Religion:

WCTU believes in the rights of individuals to pray and worship God privately and publicly in the name of Jesus without fear of government interference, criminalization, persecution or law suits from the ACLU.

WCTU also supports the display of Scripture in public places and defends our religious liberty.

Marriage and Family:

Marriage is the sacred union of one man and one woman. WCTU believes that a family is comprised of individuals related to one another by the marriage bond, through the ties of blood or adoption. This includes not only two-parent households, but also single-parent families.

Sexual Purity:

WCTU believes in the Scriptural standard that sexual relationships outside of marriage are wrong. WCTU believes in an equal standard of purity for men and women. WCTU helped put into place age-of-consent laws to protect our children from sexual predators.

Freedom from Harmful Influences:

Scripture instructs us to honor our body as the temple of the Holy Spirit and to protect it from anything that would contaminate the body or soul.

WCTU believes in self-control, which is characterized by temperance. (moderation in all things good and abstinence from all things harmful). In order to have a life that is full, abundant, and free in Jesus Christ, membership in the WCTU requires abstinence from the use of alcohol beverages, tobacco products, and illegal drugs.

Gambling:

WCTU believes it is wrong to gamble. therefore, we are opposed to government sponsorship of lotteries and all other forms of gambling.

Pornography:

WCTU believes that pornography encourages indecent and deviant sexual conduct, which often leads to the victimization of innocent unsuspecting persons. Pornography is a degenerative force that supports sexual predators and destroys sacred relationships; therefore, we stand opposed to pornography in any form.
